Omaha Hi/Lo - Poker game review

Omaha Hi/Lo is a variant of Omaha. The betting, blinds, and postings are exactly the same as in Omaha. The difference is that, at the showdown the best high hand and the best low hand split the pot.

Straight or flushes do not count against the low hand. Most often the game is played with the amendment that a player must have an 8 low in order to qualify for the low part of the pot. That is why the game is often referred to as Omaha/8 or O8B (Omaha 8 or better). If no one has an 8 low or better, the best high hand wins the pot.

As the pot is split into two, a hand that can win both parts is very strong. With a starting hand of A[spade] A[diamond] 2[spade] 3[diamond] the three lowest cards are covered for low and for high two nut flushes are possible together with the power of a pair of aces. The numerous drawing possibilities is fascinating in Omaha Hi/Lo.
